I haven’t been much in the mood to blog about lately, mostly
because not much has been going on for me personally.
But there have been some pretty great moments recently. Minus the fact that I had to deal with a flooded
bathroom yesterday morning, while my husband was away on travel in Seattle. That was not so great...but, moving on...
Like the San Francisco Giants winning their second World
Series title in three years! Pretty
great stuff. It was fun to watch and
feel that excitement again.
Also this whole presidential election deal. I am not very political and find myself
fairly moderate I never vote completely along either party line and I love that
about this country. But I always vote.
It’s a privilege I do not take for granted. What a blessing it is to live in
this great country. I am thankful this
election is over, I grew very tired of
all the mailing and ads and fact checking and crazy posts on facebook. Enough already. I am thankful that regardless of who I voted
for, we have a president that I will pray for and honor and respect because
as a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints our 12th article of Faith states:
“We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers,
and magistrates, in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.”
We live a great country and I know it can continue to be
great.
I do have to say that as a member of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints, this election was certainly an interesting
one. With Mitt Romney running, it drew
so much attention to our Faith. I am
thankful for that attention, I am thankful that we’re able to clear up some
misconceptions and invite people to learn more about our beliefs and not look
at us as the “cult” some of our “Christian” brother and sisters claim we
are. I was able to talk with more people
at work and had them asking sincere questions and wanting to know more, what a
great opportunity it has been for us Mormons.
While not all the press was accurate or positive, I think we’re coming
away a little bit better understood among the American people and know this
will open doors along the way.
Oh and I’m 30 now. I
guess that officially makes me a grown up.
Nothing feels different from when I turned 25, but I guess that’s
because nothing really is different.
Same job (thankfully), same husband (thankfully), same condo
(thankfully), same car, same hair color, mostly the same size jeans (there
maybe more of a muffin top now). I am
thankful for my 30 years of living however.
I know I have accomplished a lot and am in a good place, I am doing what
Heavenly Father wants me to be doing, and even though I really don’t like my
birthday, I just hate being celebrated and the center of attention, I am
thankful for each day He gives me.
I read a poem recently that I’ll end with, by G.K.
Chesterson
Here dies another day
During which I have had eyes, ears, hands
And the great world round me;
And with tomorrow begins another.
Why am I allowed two?
I hope that in my 30th year of life I can really start appreciating
small moments and complain less, take nothing for granted, and enjoy life a
little more.

Happy Birthday Whitney!
I really liked what you said about the election results and the 12th article of faith. I couldn't believe all the FB posts the night of the election. I was shocked and embarrassed for my friends at some of the things they posted. God is much bigger than one man, whether that be Obama or Romney!
Another friend of mine posted this after the election: "Your success as a family, our success as a society, depends not on what happens in the White House, but on what happens in your house" - James E. Faust [I don't know exactly who James Faust is, but I love the quote and think it is so accurate]!
Oh, and I could write a book about muffin tops! Such a brutal side effect of getting older!
Enjoy the rest of your special day!!
