More Adventures

This time, it was Mexico City.  I was able to go down to Mexico City for a week for Free Wheelchair Mission to take the training program we developed last year and tested in Viet Nam.

It was another great success!  We trained over 30 people from 11 different states in Mexico.  I loved being able to connect with the people out in the field who are responsible to get the work done that Free Wheelchair Mission sets out to do.

For the first time in my 7.5 year career at Free Wheelchair Mission I finally felt like I was doing a good job.  I've always had a lot on my plate at FWM, and kind of became one of those Jack of all Trades, Master of None, type people.  But this training program;  this is what I am supposed to be doing.  This is my sweet spot.  I'm so thankful to have had these experiences and feel empowered to work even harder to get this program all around the world!

We taught this group how to properly build our wheelchairs.

How to properly fit and teaech recipients how to use their wheelcahirs,

Learning skills of how to get in and out of the wheelchairs.

And finally apply what we leared.  We distributed 50 wheelchairs over the next two days and had a wonderful expereince teaching others how to do just what we'd been doing that prior three days.

Building chairs....

Taking measurements to ensure proper fit.
And putting these recipients into their wheelcahirs!

Many of these people are getting into their later years where it just becomes harder and harder to move and they were so thankful to get a little relief throug the gift of a wheelchair.

This little girl on the other hand has a spinal deformity and will never be able to walk.  Her mother had been carrying her, but soon enough she'll be too big to carry.  Little Sarah was so happy to be sitting in her wheelchair, she had a smile that just lit up the crowd.

We managed time to take breaks and eat lots of great food too.
Such a fun group I got to be with for the week!

Of course I had to give some sort of speech, it is still so strange to me that people actually want to hear me talk.  I sure am thankful that when I was a little girl I had to get up in church and talk occasionally, it certainly prepared me for moments like this!
