Let's Do This!

In about 4 months Adam and I will run our first marathon. Yep, 26.2 miles. Let me just start by saying, running is probably my least favorite type of physical exercise. Running a marathon has never been on my bucket list, and after we ran a half marathon last February I pretty much swore I’d never do that again. So what am I thinking? Why, why in the world would I sign up to run a full marathon? Well, that’s the easy part. There’s a need, a need for 100 million wheelchairs around the world. I’ve seen it, and I’ve seen the transformation that happens when someone is lifted up and put into a wheelchair for the first time. It truly is a transformation. And if I can run and do it knowing that my miles matter, because I’m doing it for a cause, I know I will finish.

But I need help. 26.2 miles is a long way to go, but reaching 100 million people around the world with wheelchairs will take far longer than the 4 – 5 hours it will take me to finish the run. But if I know that for the 26.2 miles I’ve run, I’ve been a part of fundraising so reaching those 100 million doesn’t take quite so long it will all be worth it.

My first donation came from my nine year old niece. She sold cupcakes and sent the money to be used to support FWM. Isn’t that amazing! She’s 9! She sent me the $6 and didn’t keep a cent for herself. And guess what, for the rest of October Free Wheelchair Mission has a donor who will be matching all donations received, so really Mia’s $6 was doubled and turned into $12! Awesome huh?

This won’t be the last time I blog about this, so you’ll get plenty of opportunities to support Team Blaesser, but this whole doubling the donation part will stop on Oct. 31st. So don’t delay.

If you think you might want to join in this running part, Adam and I would love to have you join our team.

If you want to donate to Adam and me jointly, we have a team page.

Or we have separate fund raising pages, one for me and one for him.

So what do you say, a small sacrifice will mean so much to someone who is currently stuck in a bed all day, or forced to drag themselves across the ground to get anywhere.

We're running, making our miles matter, and running for mobility...
