Day 2 in Venice was 100 times better than day one. Venice is a beautiful, romantic and must see city. I really did love it. With all the bridges and canals, there really isn't another place like it.
We spent the day mostly just getting lost, on purpose of course. We spent time in St. Mark's Square, of course going inside the Basilica, but also just people watching. We used our
Rick Steve's audio guide to help us feel more informed about the square and the Basilica. I would highly recommend downloading his guides, they are free and really helped us enjoy and understand what we were seeing so much more.

While my mom is sure to scold me, we decided not to splurge on a Gondola ride, they are just so expensive and I just couldn't imagine spending that much for a 40 minute experience. So we took the public water bus, aka vaparetto, and again used Rick Steve's Grand Canal guide to learn about all the sites on the Grand Canal. It was a great experience. We hopped on and off at different points and had a great time.

Since we had bought all day passes on the Vaparetto we decided to hit up the Island of Murano to check out all the hype about the glass work. While we enjoyed it, it is not part of the must dos in Venice, you can skip it if you don't have a lot of time.

We loved our time in Venice, but it was time to get our the Norwegian Spirit. Let the cruise begin!
The first day we had was at sea and we had great weather, so we enjoyed
all kinds of activities and just being able to unpack and relax before
we hit the ground running.

Hope you're not getting worn out by the cruise posts already we have a long way to go still!

I'm told that if you tell people from Venice that you're from Saint Louis, they recognize/acknowledge it immediately (whereas in many international destinations, Saint Louis the city is relatively unknown), because the Cathedral Basilica here in town ousted Saint Mark's for the title of "largest collection of mosaics in the world" at some point several years ago. It really is something to see! ~Cousin Robert
I've been anxiously awaiting these posts! First, the pics are gorgeous! Where did you get that dress for formal night? It looks like something out of the pages of the Anthrologie catalog and I love it. You lucky ducks with that balcony. I have been wanting to call and see how much it might cost to upgrade ours to a balcony as well...By the way, where'd you get that hat in the balcony pic? So cute!
Thanks Heidi! The dress is from Macy's. I got a great deal on it too, I had a 25% off all items including sale items, and it was already 40% off, so it ended up being like $30. I actually got the hat from Ross, it's a Nine West hat.
It might not be that crazy, but it seems super crazy to me-- we were on that exact ship one month ago! Did you guys go to Windows? Did you try the laugen bread in the buffet? How about the "Thank you" mints in the restaurants? Did the cruise director's voice bother you? Oh, i'm so jealous of your excursion!
