Camping on Catalina

This year, since we didn't have any grand summer vacation planned, I decided we should go camping on Catalina for Adam's birthday.

Believe it or not we have not been tent camping since we've been married.  We got all the gear as wedding gifts, but had never used any of it.   So Adam was excited at this opportunity to finally camp!  Adam had also never been to Catalina before.  So not only was I finally able to plan a great birthday for him, but we camped and Adam went to Catalina for the first time.

The one draw back to camping on Catalina is the amount of luggage you have to take on the ferry
We took the day off on Friday and headed over to the beautiful island to enjoy a long weekend.
On Friday we set up the tent, got settled, then were off to kayak and snorkel and enjoy the sun.

Adam did most of the work.

Saturday morning we took our time trying to sleep in (you know how it is when you camp) and then headed down to the beach for some yummy breakfast at the Pancake Cottage.   The rest of the day we really just relaxed and went for walks and swam.  We were going to rent a tandem bike, but the area you could bike in was so limited, there was no way we were going to spend money to bike for an hour in places we had already walked all around.

Waking up to deer at the campsite

Since Saturday was Adam's birthday we made sure to go to dinner at a place that was right on the water, and so we hit up Antonio's and loved it!

Of course we had to get dessert, it was his birthday - yummy waffle cones.

It really was a great weekend.  Very relaxing and just nice to get away.

Great photos! How fun!

So, my only question is: Did you really pack two huge suitcases for a weekend of camping??? I'm not judging, I'm just curious because that's how I pack and Tony always gives me a hard time. In fact, he usually only packs his suitcase to 40-45 pounds when we fly because it's a sure thing I'll have to re-pack at the check-in counter and give him some of my loot. :-)

Happy Birthday to Adam!

The suit cases were actually really light because all they had in them were sleeping bags and pillows and towels and a few other camping items. But sleeping bags and pillow tak up a alot of space, that is why there is so much large luggage. But I generally overpack for all my trips anyway.

Whitney, we were there on Friday and Saturday too! We took pictures in the same exact spots too. How is it that we didn't run in to you?

ok Whitney I'm designating you as the official party planner for my birthday. an exact repeat of Adam's would be nice. Camping on Catalina! What a great idea! Hint, hint: I've never been to Catalina either :-) And I love camping too :-) And I'm totally ready to ditch my kids and go for walks and swims all day too, and who would pass up kayaking? Huh? Happy Birthday to that Adam that we love! I'm way jealous of your good birthday fun! You two are such a handsome couple!

love ya big time!
