We finished with a time of 2:03. Not too bad, a 9:25 minute mile pace. We were going at a steady 9:05 minute mile, but at mile 12, just 1.1 miles to go, I started to get really dizzy and knew if I didn't slow down I would pass out. So I told Adam we had to walk, I could tell he was so bummed. Sooo bummed, and so was I, my only goal was to run/ jog the whole thing, and so close to the finish line and I just didn't get enough calories in me during the race and my body started shutting down. We walked about .3 miles and picked up a lite jog to the finish line. Lesson learned, drink more gatorade and eat the snacks they have along the side of the race.
The more important thing is that we raised almost $1,000 for Free Wheelchair Mission! I think we have a few more donations coming too! So while I was running I was able to stay motivated and feel like I was doing this for more than just a finishing time, but for the 17 people we had helped get off the ground and into a wheelchair. A pretty good feeling I must say.
Adam was bummed he didn't leave it all on the course and I love him so much for staying with me while my body was recovering and I can say I was spent. We crossed holding hands and I guzzled a bottled of water and ate an apple as fast as possible and was good as new. Guess I just needed more calories than I thought!
I think we might just have to make this a tradition!
