Magic of Mobility

You all know by know that I am one of the lucky people in the world that absolutely loves my job and feel so blessed to go to work everyday and know that I am making a difference. Last week we had our annual summer event. This was my 5th year at the event and they just get better and better every year. We were all a little bit nervous on what the turn out would be like, after all the tickets to get in are $125, and we generally raise a lot of money, but with this down economy, we were all biting our nails. However we had around 400 people come and raise over $800,000 in one night! It was amazing. One of the best things about my job is that I love the people I work with. They're all such wonderful people and I am lucky to call them my friends. There are 2 staff missing from the photo above, but it's pretty remarkable, that when I stated at Free Wheelchair Mission there was just 6 of us and now there are 18 staff!

We were able to bring one of our wheelchair recipients over from India for the event, her name is Sobha and she is amazing. She contracted Polio when she was just 5 years old and did not receive her first wheelchair until she was 28, she's now 29 and explained that now that she has a wheelchair she is able to go to school and is learning English. She has also taken up knitting and has been able to sell some of her blankets and hats so she now has an income. Here she is telling her story at the event!

The event was at the Turnip Rose as it always and is it's just such a beautiful venue, the people that come to join the celebration are treated very well!

Here's a few more pictures from that night! The best part is that we raised enough money to send out another 16,000 wheelchairs!

Adam got to come to the event and meet lot of new people, not exactly something that's in his comfort zone, but I think he had a good time.

Dessert served after the program, delicious!

It was an awesome night and I am so thankful to have this great opportunity to work for Free Wheelchair Mission and be part of such a great cause!
