ER

What will I do Thursdays at 10 pm now? It’s over, the only show that I have consistently followed and loved for over a decade, ER. The show was on for 15 seasons, and I think I watched about 13 of them. I was a bit young when it started, but my parents watched it and once I hit high school I would stay up and watch with them. It was the only show I watched in college, since I didn’t have much time for TV, but Thursday nights, my roommates knew that when ER came on, I’d put the books down, hang up the phone with Adam and tune in.

I was so sad last night thinking there will never be a new ER again. That show has made me cry more than any other I’ve ever watched, and I’ve been so attached to certain characters. It's hard to pick favorites, because each character has something you love and hate about all of them, which makes it easy to connect with them. I've always loved Nila and Abby from the more recent years. Then there's Dr. Green and Carter from the earlier years, and I loved that they kept Dr. Ross and Carol together. The show always shocked and surprised me, like the episode where Lucy and Carter were stabbed, it was 9 years ago but just remember being so anxious about it, and thinking that episode was perfection in TV production. I even remember the song they were playing when it happened!

One thing about ER, is that they always had the best previews for the next week's episodes. Honestly, it was impossible not to tune in once you'd seen the preview.

I found out this interesting fact about the show, "in 1974, author Michael Crichton wrote a screenplay based on his own experiences as a medical resident in a busy hospital emergency room. The screenplay went nowhere, and Crichton focused on other topics. The script used to shoot the pilot was virtually unchanged from what Crichton had written in 1974." 30 years later began the longest running Medical drama to date on television. Pretty impressive. It's true the show may not have been as good as it was in it's glory days in the '90's, but I am still sad to see it go, and will miss this...

Thanks for bringing drama, tears, laughter and good television to my home for the last 15 years!

I hope you didn't make that collage.

You'll have to buy them on DVD and just go back and enjoy them. With 15 seasons to watch, you'll forget things that you've seen before. Ian and I do this with our favorite show, Star Trek. (Yep, we're Trekkies!!)

Of course she made the collage, with tears running down her face and the theme song playing in the back round.
