3 Years

Of wedded bliss! I know three years is  a pretty short amount of time in the scheme of things, but there really have been some great memories in our three years of marriage so far.
I think I will call year three, the year of my hard working husband.
During this year I have seen a whole new side of Adam. Now he’s always been hard working, but he’s also been a “stay in my comfort zone” type of person. This year I saw him break out of that and try new things and work really hard to achieve excellence.

In January he built me a data base for work. So, maybe this wasn’t entirely out of his comfort zone, but still he spent hours and hours creating this thing for me and it has been a great tool in my job.

In February he demolished our guest bathroom, pretty much completely by himself. This was totally a new project. He’d never done any kind of home remodeling and so to take on doing a bathroom was definitely a task neither of us were all that comfortable with.

After about 4 months the bathroom was complete. And it is beautiful!
Seven months later, in December he decided it was time to remodel the master bathroom. I told him my anniversary gift this year could be a new master bathroom. (mostly because we don’t really do the whole gift thing)

Other things Adam has done this year that amaze me. Mystery shopping. Seriously, it is awesome. It is just about the best way to save money (even make money) and still enjoy going out to eat and some of the things we didn't do before because we didn't have the budget for it.  We hardly ever go out to eat and pay for it anymore. Even tonight, for our anniversary dinner, we’re going to a restaurant called Season’s 52, which I would highly recommend, and we won’t pay for it, because Adam signed us up for a mystery shop. Adam even found a mystery shop for his latest hair cut, he is seriously saving us so much money by doing all of this, I love him for it.

Then there's the half marathon training.  When I got home from China, Adam was already in his training program and signed up to run the Surf City half marathon.  So he got me on board and he has be extremely dedicated to the training schedule, the race is just a month away, and if you want to donate to our fundraising efforts for Free Wheelchair Mission you can do it here!

The last thing I’ll mention is Adam’s real job. We got news back in August that the program Adam works on at Boeing, the B1 program, would be moving all operations to Oklahoma by 2012. It’s never fun to get news like that. But at least we had time and I knew with how hard working and determined Adam is, and because we pay a full tithe, that things would work out. By December Adam had found a new job. It is still in Boeing which is nice because he can keep all of his benefits and building up the pension that he will get. (I know we’re lucky, who gives pensions anymore?) Adam is now doing internal audit for Boeing. This means that he will travel to different Boeing sites around the country (and perhaps the world) to do financial audits on different programs. His first audit will be in Philadelphia! There is good and bad to this. We will be a part a lot more. When he does travel it will be Mon – Thursday to the sites. But the pluses are, getting to see more of the country, I hope to fly out and visit him for weekends when he is in cool places. He will accumulate a lot of airline miles, and hotel points, so hopefully any vacations we take in the future will be a lot less expensive for us.
These few things I’ve mentioned are just a few examples of how my husband’s hard work and willingness to try new things have blessed our family and allowed us to experience new things and enjoy each other even more.

So, to my sweet husband I say Happy Anniversary, thanks for making this year one to remember. Love you!
